She knows what she needs and when she needs it so just follow her lead. There will be times when she needs a break and times when she needs her kittens to be close. I would not lock her up. She might not feel safe there and might move her kittens. Better to put up a doggy gate and seperate the cats and dogs that way. Cats are great mothers.
